Invite Opportunity to Come Knocking on Your Door

Last Fall while I was visiting New York, I found myself walking down the most beautiful street on my way to Park Slope in Brooklyn.  I was captivated by the way each home seemed to understand the importance of the front entrance.  Nothing makes a statement on a house or building more than the front door.

feng shui front doorIn feng shui, it is said that the front door is the “primary mouth of chi.” That means your front door is the vessel through which the most energy comes into your home.  Even more so, doors represent opportunities.  So if you are looking for more opportunities to come your way, your front door is the first place to look in your home.

If you don’t use your front door as your main entry into the home, then it is especially important that you energize your front entrance. You are most likely under-utilizing the energy available at your front door.

Beautiful entry but make sure not to have too many plants, etc. blocking chi. This entry is good for 'protection' as well.

The overall point is to make your front entrance welcoming.  Imagine a ball of positive energy walking down your street.  Would it want to come into your home?  (I hope your visualization of that is as humorous as mine.) Perhaps that ball of energy is holding a large sum of money, a job opportunity, good news, a joint venture, or maybe even the love of your life.

Here are some things to consider in making sure Opportunity comes knocking at your door:

1. Clean around Doorway – Bugs and cobwebs love to collect around the front door.  Make sure you periodically clean and sweep this area.  Also, make sure shrubs, tree limbs, and bushes aren’t blocking your entranceway.   When walking around my neighborhood, I notice that homes that have been sitting For Sale for a long time always have overgrown shrub blocking the entranceway.  This is an easy fix!

2. Hardware in Order – Make sure the knob, hinges, and hardware work properly on your door.  I had a flimsy knob on my front door.  Periodically, it would come completely off as I tried to come home.  Not good!  I have since replaced it with this beautiful, sturdy, bronze knob.  When I come home, there’s a different feel to it.

3. Doorbell or Door Knocker – You may have a welcoming front entrance, but will you know Opportunity is there if you don’t hear it knocking?  Probably not.  Make sure your doorbell or door knocker is visible and functioning.

4. House Numbers – You want opportunity to find you.  Make sure your house numbers are visible.  Not to mention, the numerology for your home is a powerful asset.  You want your home to be clear.

5. Welcome Mat – A door mat is an easy way to designate the front entrance as well as make it welcoming.  Let your welcome mat reflect the personality of you and/or the occupants of the home.

6. Add Plants or Flowers – Plants and flowers are a great way to add life force to any area in your home, especially the front porch.  To enhance the energy around the front door, place a plant or flower on each side of the door.  In effect, it widens the energy of the doorway to give you and your home an extra boost of energy.

7. Paint or Stain Your Front Door – Most everyone is familiar with the benefits of having a red front door.  Statistics actually show that homes with red doors sell best.  Of course, red isn’t always appropriate.  You can still give your front door a boost by putting a fresh coat of paint or stain on it.  Give it some new life!

As you make these changes, always add your intention of what ‘opportunities’ you want to come your way.  The more specific you are, the more specific your opportunities will be revealed.
