Bagua Map Series: Helpful People & Travel
I just returned from the Big Apple where I held some book events and workshops. The weekend went splendidly: I met some wonderful people, did some great shopping, and enjoyed perfect weather in New York. The trip couldn’t have been better – that is – until the last night.
It is from this event that I am about to share that provided the impetus for a new blog series called the Bagua Map Series.
Each week (or so) I will post an article covering each of the nine sections of the Bagua Map. And because of this event I am starting with the Helpful People & Travel section of the Bagua Map. This section is often overlooked or deemed not as important as other areas. However, it can be one of the most important. (Although theoretically all nine should be balanced.)
What is the Bagua Map?
The Bagua Map (sometimes referred to as the Pa Kua and shaped octagonally) comes to us from the I Ching – The Book of Changes – which is said to be one of the oldest books ever written. The grid or map shows you where each aspect of your life can be found in your home. (To get your Bagua Map with instructions on how to apply it, register for my newsletter and you will receive it as your free gift.)
People are often perplexed as to why Helpful People and Travel fall within the same area on the Bagua Map. In fact I had just gotten this question at my workshop. Little did I know I was getting ready to test it!
My story explains why Helpful People and Travel are interrelated…
I spent a great day in Brooklyn visiting Coney Island, holding a workshop at Kris Waldherr’s studio, and then later had dinner and drinks in Park Slope with some friends. I rode the subway back to Manhattan around 12:30pm with my partner. We left the subway station when I realized I didn’t have my bag with me. OMG! (and other words not appropriate for my website).
My bag’s contents contained the following: my wallet, my ID, my credit card and debit card, a check, some cash, 3 of my books, a new pair of moccasins that I loved, a sweatshirt from Coney Island, and all my workshop materials. Did I mention my ID? I was scheduled to fly out the next morning. It is by now 1:00am and I have no ID. Luckily I had my phone.
I went to the Help station at the subway. A very nice lady tracked down the subway, had someone search it, and, well, came up empty. I was actually shocked by this news. I have lost keys, wallets, and purses before but they had always been turned in. Instead, it was deemed stolen with no hope. “Afterall, it is New York,” according to the security guard. She urged me to file a police report. I instead started calling my credit card company and bank also to no avail. Fraud departments have normal working hours apparently.
It was a long walk back to the apartment, which I luckily had the key for. I was exhausted, irritable, and felt defeated. All I wanted was to be out of this city and at the same time felt stranded with no ID. New York is a city that can chew you up and spit you out if you don’t hold your ground. On the flip side, it can feed an insatiable appetite of pleasures. A true 3rd chakra city. Clearly, my 3rd chakra needed an upgrade. It was by now 2:00am. The East Village was hopping with those that definitely had a lot fewer worries than I did, at least until tomorrow.
And then my phone rang. It was too late to be my dog sitter. And it was a New York number.
“Hello!”
“Hi, is this Tisha?”
“YES!”
“Uh, I found your bag at the sub station.”
“Oh my god. THANK YOU!”
She had found my bag, found my business card in my wallet, and called me.
We rode all the way back out to Brooklyn to her apartment to get my bag at 2:30am. Everything was of course in there and completely safe. All that was lost was about 3 hours of sleep.
She was truly an Earth angel for me.
And so you can see the correlation between Helpful People and Travel.
This section of the Bagua Map can also be used to help access our guides and angels. As the security guard at the sub station was trying to track my bag, I called in help from my angels to keep it safe and also placed a white protective light around my bag.
With regard to this section in my own home, my Helpful People and Travel section is located in the master bedroom which is the most beautiful room in the house. It was originally the parlor in 1908 with the original pocket doors and fireplace. It now has a claw foot tub and chandeliers. It was a real selling point. Houses support us more in some areas than others. This house definitely is supportive in this area.
Another benefit of the Helpful People and Travel section is that it will help you connect with those people that will be helpful to you – kind of like the synchronistic opportunities. And that has definitely been the case since I moved into this house a year ago.

The colors associated with this area are grey, white, and dark colors. It is associated with the Metal Element and complimentary with the Water Element. It is a good area to place pictures or items associated with deities, such as Mary, Jesus, Ganesh, and so forth. If you want more travel, place pictures of places you want to travel. Invoke your intentions into this room.
Thank you to my earth and heavenly angels.

I loved this article – it is right on target! Since learning about feng shui, the Helpful People gua has particularly fascinated me because I see it at work in my life, now more than ever. Having a support system, experiencing the kindness of strangers, watching new and wonderful people enter my life – it is amazing. I am so happy that your bag came back to you, Tisha, I can only imagine the relief!
